§ 13. Powers under general laws reserved; penalty for violating ordinances.

  • The village shall have the power, in addition to the powers herein given, to exercise all powers now or hereafter available to municipalities under the general laws, and to make and enforce ordinances, rules and regulations necessary or expedient for effectuating the powers hereby or by general laws conferred, and to impose penalties for violating ordinances, rules and regulations by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars ($500.00) or imprisonment at hard labor on the streets or other works of the municipality, or elsewhere, for a term of not exceeding sixty (60) days, or by both such fine and imprisonment, and to do all things necessary or expedient for promoting or maintaining the general welfare of the municipality or its inhabitants.
